ackground information:

  Teaching contents: M1 U2 Project

  Students: 49 Grade 10 students

  Time duration: 45minutes.

Learning objectives:After this lesson, the students will be able to

a)    Understand the three growing pains: physical, psychological and social.

b)      Develop a better attitude towards the inevitable growing pains.

Teaching difficulties:

a) Instruct the students to analyze the structure of the article.

Teaching materials:

  Blackboard, PPT, chalk.

Teaching methods:

  Individual work, pair work, group work.

Teaching procedures:

Step1: Lead-in

Play a song “Hero”, with the lyrics on the screen. At the same time, explain some information of the movie to the students.

Step2: Analysis of the article

  1. Topic part:

Since the title of this essay is “Growing Pains”, we can easily guess the theme or topic of this article is “Growing Pains”. Now you have 3 minutes to read the first and the second paragraph.

 

Task 1: Translate the second and the third sentences in the first paragraph in groups. One person writes and the other two translate orally. Three persons as a group. Please polish your language to make it sounds beautifully.

T: Growing pains exit every stage of our lives. They accompany us all the way. They are our friends. Let’s see an American boy Mason’s life. We will see at different period of his life, he has different growing pains. The same thing is that these growing pains are always there, accompanying him and so do us.

The same as Mason’s life, the old growing pains will disappear and the new ones will come. Growing pains will witness our life journey towards somewhere.

So our homework for today is to write a composition. The topic sentence is what you have written at the beginning of this lesson.

a)        No less than two supporting details.

b)        No less than 80 words.
